Chain Store Age, a retail trade publication, featured an article on how the Barclaycard futuretrust MasterCard helps to meet the unique needs of the customers of Mothers Work in its September issue.
Mothers Work, the maternity apparel retailer with 1,500 locations, recognized a need to help its customers save for their child\'s college education. The futuretrust program offers an easy way for parents to open a 529 college savings account as well as ways to drive contributions to the fund.
One way is to take the futuretrust credit card, which is offered at the point of sale, and receive a percentage of all spending into the future trust 529 account or any other 529 plan.
The average spend on cards linked to a 529 is much higher than the annual sales driven by cards that are not linked.
"Spending is four times the retail-industry average when purchases are paid for with a card that is linked to a 529 college-savings account," Matt Massaua, Senior Director, Partnership, is quoted as saying in the article.
Such news coverage strengthens the positioning of Barclaycard US as a good partner to retailers within the industry.
